I originally wrote this as a way to cheer up a friend, but revisiting it now, I’m reminded how much I still love these drinks. The gin, cognac, citrus, and maple make for a dangerously smooth combo, and the little tweaks—smoke, egg white, different citrus—change the whole vibe.
If I were mixing today, I’d probably play around even more—maybe a rum split base, a pinch of salt, or a barrel-aged gin for extra depth. But that’s the fun of cocktails, right? You never really make the same one twice.
